Hair transplants and PRP

Blog by Natasha

What is PRP and how can it help me?

Platelet Rich Plasma, PRP for short, is a treatment process where the patient’s blood is

harvested and processed for the purpose of reinjection back into the patient or sometimes we use our Skinpen if we feel it would be more beneficial to you!

The concentrated platelets found in PRP contain growth factors that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. These bioactive proteins initiate connective tissue healing and repair, promote development of new blood vessels, and stimulate the healing process.

PRP treatments have been used by the medical industry since the 1960’s to treat some orthopedic con

ditions, tendon and sports injuries and post-surgical repair. In some cases, PRP helps to eliminate the need for more aggressive treatments such as long-term medication or surgery, as well as a remarkable return of function and a much shorter recovery time.

In aesthetics, PRP is mainly used for facial rejuvenation and hair loss. PRP is an excellent treatment for hair loss, thinning hair or for those wanting thicker fuller hair. In most cases traction hair loss will respond well to PRP treatment dependent on the severity/stage of hair loss.

For those that have had hair transplants or scalp therapy, post-surgery PRP applications maximize results so are highly beneficial to patients who are looking for a post op aftercare solution, therefore, PRP is essential in those think of undertaking hair transplants.

Treatments can be delivered pre and post-surgery for maximum results by regenerating the scalp to restore function to our hair follicle

s, Preserving and improving the vitality of hair follicles during and after hair transplantation, accelerated healing after the intervention of the hair transplant and stimulates the growth of new hair.

How PRP is conducted

PRP is a unique treatment that utilises a biological product taken by a trained practitioner.

As with all new treatments it is very important to have a full individualised consultation with one of the team to ensure you are properly assessed and make sure the treatment course is right one for you as with any treatment there may be certain conditions or medications that are contraindicated.

During the process, a sample is prepared from the patient's own blood and the platelet rich plasma is harvested following a separating process. The platelet rich plasma is the part that contains the growth factors, increases cell growth, supports blood vessels in the scalp and nurtures hair follicles and promotes the tissue repair and regeneration.

Due to this being a natural product taken from your own blood the risks are minimal in comparison to other treatments and PRP has been clinically proven to give natural looking results.

Once separated the Platelet rich plasma is administered by injecting precisely in the affected areas using micro needles to ensure maximum results, some localised symptom’s such as redness and bruising may occur but the due to using the patients own blood to stimulate the body’s natural ability to repair itself, any side effects are minor.

Following PRP treatment, most people can resume daily activities. Full and concise aftercare will be provided.
